Twilight

Saw the Roots at the *free* twilight concert series (no relation to the teenage bubblegum book trilogy as some people assume). Just one of the many reasons I have learned to love the SLC. Wait, except for the fact that apparently everyone in the SLC wanted to see the Roots for free. See, last years series, probably a third (if that) of the crowd that I witnessed last night showed. It was insane and insanely exhausting. Nothing like getting a contact high while trying not to inhale your neighbors bodily oders and straining to see the top of a tuba, because nothing else was feasibly visible. And you had given up trying to move through the crowd at a snails pace (only to be groped by strangers) to get to a better spot to park yourself. This is not the Gallivan Center that I know from yester-years. The one I fondly remember had more of a family atmosphere with obscure artists and room to chill, and dance, and roam about to your friend's blankets on the lawn. Much like depicted in the photo above when where I was somewhere in that crowd dancing to Calexico and Yo La Tengo. Not to mention the one where when you find a little alcove to sit and eat your food you purchased a nasty couple follows you and proceeds to try and do things that should not be done in public. Luckily I wasn't looking and I'm pretty sure Amy gave them dirty looks until they decided to leave. Don't mess with Amy. She's from the south. I sure hope I still get to see the Twilight series that I know and love at some point this year. I would even go for some lovestruck mellow dramatic vampires at this point.

So when did I get old and become a hater of crowds? Oh yeah, I think it was right around the time of the art festival where I also couldn't move. And was forced to look at kitchy art. I forgot. (okay I liked some of it, I'm just on one today).
