Black Chandelier: Exciting and Strange

I discovered the coolest boutique this weekend. Black Chandelier features a local designer's work of victorian oddities. A mixture of old world styles, colors, and images, with a very unique twist. There is a lot of pirate themed stuff (that Nina would like, and me too....arggh). None of which are on the website (frankly, the stuff on the website doesn't thrill me much, but I love what I saw in the store). It's fun, sometimes a little dark, but fun!

However, when, I found this Giant Madagascar Hissing Cockroach Brooch, I became a little concerned. This is a live jewel encrusted brooch. Did I mention the cockroach part? Mother, calm down, it's not going to get you. Seriously, in Vegas, all you have to do is walk out to a lit porch at night, and the roaches scatter. I could catch ones of those and keep them as a brooch/slash pet if I really wanted to. Which I don't. Besides which, those desert roaches don't come with the fancy leashes and crystals at $80 a brooch. Scary world we live in idnt it?

No worries, my mother taught me well.....that cockroaches are of the devil, seeing as how they have no purpose in this wonderful world other than spreading disease and grossing my mother (and myself) out. They are Eeee-veeel, as in the fru-eets of the Dev-eeel. Is it strange that as much as I like some of the merchandise there, that I find the roaches a big turn off? I realize that sometimes the quirky fashion and insanity comes hand in hand, but I don't know if that's a leap I am willing to take. Just yet.
