Best of Show

On Sunday morning, I walked into my parents room to find Mom watching the dog show with her puppy Roxy. She was educating Roxy about one of her ancestoral breeds that was competing. After a while, Mother decided that the competition could only depress Roxy as she would never be able to compete with these high breed dogs. I mentioned that the whole thing was a little discriminatory against mixed breeds. Mother agreed that it was indeed a Nazi dog competition.

Think about it. Only pure breeds can compete. Not only pure breeds, but certain pure breeds. It's Nazi Germany all over again. I'm pretty sure the German Shepherds were behind it in the beginning. In fact, if I were to research any of this, I'm pretty positive that I would find that the origins date back to World War II. I now understand how painful it must of been for our mutt Fritz (or Fritzy to those who knew him best) to have a German name with such a history as this. Also for the time that Rachel decided to trim the fluffy Lopso Opso/Poodle mix so that he could see. Unfortunately, she got carried away, resulting in a choppy close shaven head and fluffy body. We called him the tick. And apologized for his appearance to visitors.

So yes, it is about time we fight for the equal rights of all dogs to win Best of Show. I'm sure this will be an up hill battle. Mother consoled Roxy by explaining that she would get best of show in the high class mutt category if it existed. I'm sure it will little consolation in the long run.

I am deeply offended that my cute little dog would never be able to compete simply because he does not have all of his reproductive organs...

I wonder if peeing and pooping in the appropriate spot is one of the judge's categories. It would be if I were a judge. And Abby would lose, though her breeding is immaculate.

I love the imaginative spelling of Lopso Opso. I am unfamiliar with the breed, although I used to have a dog that was part Lhasa Apso who was also named Fritz. What are the odds!

I am never trusting Google ever again.

amen sister. i wonder how they would feel about letting the one ball wonder compete (Strider).

Long live the mutts and other such canines lacking complete reproductive organs.

(Although Strider's seem to work just fine. Otherwise, we would not have the wonders that are Roxy and Ginger.)

And Nina, I want Bailey to know, that we love her no less simply because she is pure bred.

*This is in memorium to the Jones mascot, Fritzy. We miss your underbite.
