The Harry Potter School of Law

An example of what studying for the Bar Exam can do to a person: Provided by Facebook and JD's law school class

Full names are excluded, of course, to prevent any legal actions by soon to be legit attorneys......

S Y is hoping that the bar only asks questions about evidence, constitutional law, and wills. Like that will ever happen....

I'm hoping they only ask about constitutional law....

I'm hoping only for Harry Potter questions.

Harry Potter questions would be nice.

I would OWN if the bar exam asked Harry Potter questions!

Could you imagine, "hey, for BarBri today, let's read Chapter One of Book Five."? That would have been heaven!

I have a Harry Potter question. A friend of mine has only seen the movies (I know, can you believe it?) and asked me about what happens when you drink unicorn blood. I didn't remember this in the books. Does anyone know what significance unicorn blood plays in the books, if any?

Let me answer your question in bar exam style:
Under the laws of magic, drinking unicorn blood will temporarily preserve someone's life, but will also cause that person to live a "cursed life." In the first book, Voldemort drinks a unicorn blood while possessing the body of Quirrell to preserve his life until he is able to possess the Sorceror's Stone and live forever. Therefore, Voldemort has done the great evil of destroying an innocent, pure creature and will live a cursed life. Voldemort pretty much already does live a cursed life, evil soul-shredded person that he is, so it doesn't much matter.

Drinking unicorn blood will keep you alive if you are on the brink of death but from that point forward you live only a cursed life. The curse results from the innocence of the unicorn. I cannot recall anything distinctly different from the book and the movie on this one but I could be wrong.

Well done! That has been bugging me for a few days. Both of you would easily be licensed lawyers in the Ministry of Magic.

I totally was thinking today, I wish I was 18, having decided to go to Brown, and show up to find that Ms. Hermoine (ok, Emma Watson) was my roommate.

That *would* be cool, but then I'd be in the awkward position of trying to pretend like I am not a Harry Potter fan/geek.

LOL Jennifer: "Ministry of Magic is my fall back" hahaha this made my day.

ok, something went TERRIBLY wrong in translation here if, as a result of a conversation about studying for the bar, some innocent soul WANTS to go to law school. What have we done?

Perhaps it is the Harry Potter School of Law that interests me? (Who am I kidding? It's the snazzy lawyer clothes that attract me to law school. You all dress like the characters in Ally McBeal, right? ;) Much better than social worker clothes.)

I remember when I was teaching going to this huge office for a lawyer meeting and thinking "I so want to work in one of these big buildings and come to work dressed all snazzy" as opposed to the chronic runny nose I had from 7 am bus duty in the winter in Kansas. Now, I run to any job that let's me dress "business casual." Pantyhose are way overrated.

Im pretty sure that HG is the girl in Joel's class that met her husband via online video gaming. And proposed to him via a game she wrote for him that he had to pass each level to before getting to the proposal. No "I'm sorry Mario, but your Princess is in another castle" here.
