New Things.....

New since I got back from mothering five children in vegas.......

Got a job, one I really like. So thats some kind of awesome. I will be working for a non-profit that has programs dealing with substance abuse and domestic violence. I get to speak spanish, so thats good, Ive missed that lately. And really, this is the type of thing I have been looking for some some 3 years now. Im feeling some kind of blessed. Seriously so.

Speaking of Spanish, I am now taking the bus to work and while waiting at the stop this morning, a small Hispanic lady kept glancing over at me. She finally came over and asked if I spoke Spanish and did i know if the 200 bus came this way. Now, there were other people there that looked way more Latin than my pale blonde self (the girls in the office didnt believe that this nordic princess towering over them could speak the Spanish). But I was happy to oblige.

Its been quite awhile since Ive really taken any form of public transportation. I enjoy it, sitting there in the quiet dawn, getting a little walking in, meeting new interesting people, or at least eavesdropping and speculating as I people watch. Or the man that called me a tall drink of water when I stood to get off at my stop. I enjoyed that. Full of character those buses are.

Parts I dont enjoy.......having to leave early and wait in the cold and dark. Sometimes the bus smells of cigarettes and bodily odor. And sometimes I find myself feeling guilty for not talking to someone at all times (missionary contacting flashbacks). But all in all, its good stuff.

I also returned to some brisk fall air, and can feel the SLC verging on winter. Which means I get to break out my scarves and my favorite coat. I love bundling up, and cuddling up to get warm. I also love drinking lots of herbal tea, hot chocolate, etc. And need to get my hands on some Choffee (the kind thats made purely from roasted cocoa beans, I like my chocolate like I like my men....dark and bitter). Good soups and chilis, my electric blanket (It's Electric!) getting me ready for the snow.

I have also committed to myself that I will wear something other than ballet flat type shoes with no socks everyday this winter (07 was the winter of denial). Subsequently it was also the winter of cold feet and snow in my shoes.

Public transporation can be quite the adventure. San Francisco, middle of the afternoon, some dark chicks in the back telling stories of how they stab people...with knives. That was fun.

My friends and I got off at the next available stop.

You'll have to tell us about your new variety of winter shoes. I'm curious.

Yay for new jobs and speaking Spanish!
