This little one turns eight today. And lest anyone be jealous because I didnt post such pictures of them or there children on their birthdays, I'm terrible with numbers, and therefore dates, and never know what date it is. Lucky for Maddie, I got home from my mission on her birthday and so always remember. I didn't however remember that today was the 10th, so when I called her mom this morning to ask a totally unrelated question and Maddie answered the phone and asked "Did you just call to say happy birthday to me?" I of course said yes.
Maddie, being the first grandchild/niece to be born in the family has a special place in all of our hearts. Especially because she is just a little bit crazy, in a good way. Most of the time. I love her for her absent mindedness, and for her insane social skills, and for her hair that I am pretty much sure she inherited from Auntie Sarah. Along with several personality traits. She is much more outgoing than I ever was, but I see alot of myself in her, don't you?
Maddie age 3: Trees have one leg and people have two legs
Nina pointing out a tree with a split trunk in the backyard: Look at that one, it has two legs...
Maddie shaking her head and sighing: Silly Jesus.
Maddie at Jack in the Box pointing to the cup with a picture of Jack with outstretched arms: Look! A Jesus clown!
She is also very spiritual.

That looks like a picture of you...back in the days when I first met you. Well, you were probably a little older than this when I met you...but close!
That picture perfectly encapsulates what it means to be eight. If only we could still get away with bumblebee boots twenty years later.
At first glance I thought it was Sarah. This photo captures the real Maddie much more than any portrait pose.
