Update

Here's a photo of little Kai (and me) at 21 weeks.
Just look at that urban baby bump.

And now for the close up.......

During the ultrasound we couldn't see anything at first while the technician was moving around, pushing on my stomach trying to get a view, and then a little Kai fist
came out of nowhere and punched back at her.
Good to see he wont be pushed around. :)

Otherwise, things seem to be going well. I just have to eat about 3 bananas a
day just to avoid leg cramps at night, Junior likes his potassium.

Up until the ultrasound I was a little anxious because I hadn't felt anything near a kick or movement (even gas bubbles or indigestion, nothing). We learned that the placenta is anterior, meaning that the movements are cushioned by the placenta that is between the wall of my tummy and the kid. But I am happy to report that I have been feeling him
more and more. Which is a big deal for lil ol paranoid me. I can only feel movements in a certain area, I think below the placenta, but I will take it.

In non-pregnant news, The World Cup is dominating Joel's attention during any free time he has, and he's even gotten me into it. We don't have any TV
reception so we cant even catch the ABC broadcast games, but thanks to the trusty iPhone and the fact that Portland has so many community events, we are good to go. Even the super early morning games will be broadcast at bars opening for the occasion and offering breakfast buffets.

On Saturday, we joined a friend at a big outdoor park watch party downtown. A huge square filled to the brim with spectators cheering on the US against Britain. (The last time we played then was in 1950, and we won! I'm learning so much.) The game was a draw and was fun to watch with the crowd, munching on produce just purchased from the farmers market, muddy buddies, and the best tomato/orange soup Ive ever had from a nearby deli.

Apart from that, even as a relatively new soccer fan (me and sports have never been friends, and Ive never gotten the thrill of sport spectating unless maybe you have a close friend or family that you are rooting for....I do have to say though that I have always said that if I were to be a sports fan, I was pretty sure that I would gravitate towards soccer) I think its pretty cool how much the US has been increasingly supporting the futbol. MLS teams are popping up all over the place, and I have to say that the excitement is contagious. I enjoy watching the games even if I don't get into the technicalities.

MINI RANT:
And I just ignore the lame guys who were standing behind us loudly talking about how everyone else there were posers and not real soccer fans. (My husband is a real fan by the way, loves Arsenal and soccer and has for-basically-ever. Just in case you thought he was a poser). But I'm sure these dudes were fans before soccer was even invented.
:END MINI RANT

Seriously, one of the fantastic things about Portland, especially during the summer when the sun comes out and it is just gorgeous, is there is so much to do. There are always a ton of outdoor events to attend, and so much good food.

Which means that you all should come visit us here.

A double thank you...not only for the pictures of Sarah, and our latest great-grandchild [which by the way we never can 'heads nor tails of'] but also we love it when we get to see some pictures of Portland. And grandpa says come down here and we will give you all the bananas you can eat. They are very plentiful here.
Thanks again for the update, Love you both, G & G Harris
