Betrothed

So yes, after 28 years and some odd 8 months of being single, it is a little odd to call myself something else. But a little wonderful all the same. I have an antique ring on my hand that I can't stop looking at (never thought I would get giddy over a ring). But I think I now understand that that it is more about what it represents and who it is from than getting a little bling. I never had a certain someone to attach that to before. It was always abstract.

So, for those of you who want a little more info on the matter, I am engaged (I feel weird saying it) to be married to Joel Mellor. And the fact that I am so excited by the prospect is amazing to me. Not that it should be surprising that anyone would like Joel (because its not) but that I am so okay with the idea of marrying someone. I was always okay with it in an abstract sense, but when the idea of real scenarios came into play it was terrifying. That may have something to do with my dating past and something else to do with my pragmatic attitude towards the whole thing. But nevertheless, I am happy to have gotten to this point.

I stole this picture from Frances' blog, I hope that she forgives me

Joel and I were introduced by a common friend. You can call her Francie Pants. And you may read her blog as well because she is quite the story teller. We all happened to be going to the same concert at the McKay Event Center (not my favorite venue). Modest Mouse and Rilo Kiley. I was going for Rilo Kiley and I thought that MM sounded awful, or at least their sound did. Joel will tell you a different story. I remember thinking that Mr. Mellor was intelligent and funny and had nice eyes, and that he might be good for my friend. Yep.

Over the course of almost a year we saw each other periodically but it wasn't until we somehow became internet chatting buddies that something else was spawned. Oh interweb, I would be social recluse still if it wasn't for you. It wasn't until that one day that Joel was buoying me up for being what he thinks is such a good friend to others and not giving myself enough credit, and he decided he was taking me to dinner because of it. I thought that was very nice of him. But being who I am thought nothing more. You can imagine (or maybe only I can)
my surprise when he asked me out for the next weekend. He won me over and the rest is history, so to speak. Apparently the first few times he asked me out my response was kind of a shocked.......Okaaay. I really don't understand why I haven't been a dating machine. Crazy, right?

But Joel is an amazing man, I want you to know. 29, from the Seattle, Washington area and a 3rd year law student at BYU. He is passionate about the law and history and the world. In his schooling and internships has spent time in London, Israel, and Sou
th Africa and knows basically everything that is going on in the whole entire globe. He has a hard time focusing on studying as he is too tempted by headlines of current world events and online editorials ranging from the particulars of our economy to the logistics of silk screening. (His newest project, silk screening stenciled depictions of his friends onto t-shirts and such, its pretty awesome). Yes, so his ambitions range from working in DC, in international law, to us creating various forms of art and selling them in a booth at farmers markets and street fairs. Granted, we would probably have to live in the booth, so maybe we will find a happy medium between the two. :)

Quite brilliant despite what he might tell you. I love his lovely eyes and his manly scruff. And his desire to make me happy and treat others well. He is generous to a fault sometimes. And has a memory like someone that remembers basically everything which only adds to his quick wit. And he cooks! Oh does he cook. Very well actually. Intimidatingly well in fact. And my gluten free needs don't hinder his cooking skills. Rather he takes it as a challenge.

When we announced the pending nuptials to my parents my father commented that Joel must be pretty special because they knew that their picky dau
ghter wouldn't settle for less. And he is.

We are good together. I love him.

Only I wish he didnt have to pull faces in every picture, but *sigh* I guess you can't have it all...

Congratulations, Joel and Sarah! You two look good together and I'm SO happy for you. It's fun to get to know a little more about your betrothed, seeing as when I met him I mostly told him my life story (I know shocking) and didn't find out much about him. I could tell however, from our short meeting (actually kind of long if you consider it was in the middle of the grocery store) that he knew his way around the kitchen, impressive! My only advice (yeah right) is if having any bridesmaids or matrons, make sure they have hideous dresses, so as to make yourself look that much more amazing :). Just kidding, you will look beautiful regardless of what anyone else wears, but it might be fun to make your sisters wear ugly dresses!!
