My personal disdain for Halloween

Halloween has never been my favorite holiday. I mean, yes, you tend to get lots of candy to eat, I'm not knocking that, and given the appropriate opportunity to really dress up can be enjoyable....and also a pain. But it wasn't until I was running some errands the other day that it hit me, how much I really don't like Halloween. It has much to do with the endless array of ghoulish characters you see everywhere. They are scary looking and fake, which curiously enough is more freaky to me than if they were real. I was at the grocery store and had the beginnings of three separate little panic attacks when these things suddenly decided to invade my personal space. Or I practically ran into them, since they don't move. But don't get me started on the moving ones! That start cackling and moaning and flashing lights and moving when you walk by? Cruel intentions comes to mind. And this goes as well for singing happy jolly dancing santas at Christmas. If you aren't flesh and blood buddy, don't want to see pretending to be. So if it's of any interest to anyone, didnt like the movie AI either.

Besides which, it's all just dark and spooky and gross stuff you see. The cute and creative costumes, that I can grasp, but not the looming Dementors that chase you across the institute of halloweens past. Not cool. Needless to say, not a fan of haunted houses, I spook way too easily (which is fun for others to watch, but not for your's truly). And when a coworker asked if I would be seeing the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie, my answer was a resounding no.

to sum it up, i never realized how traumatic halloween must be for you. I usually just think of statues and taxidermy when i think of your...um...'problem'. How about those guys that pretend to be fake but are really real. That must really freak you out. Pretending to be scary and then scaring you and turning out to be less scary because they are real, but you are more scared becaused they scared you. can you tell i just had some caffeine?

I remember when you and Laura dressed up like Lavern and Shirley for Halloween. That was not so scary.

I remember when Jessica was all dressed up like a little ghost and thought it was all fun 'til she looked in the mirror and freaked out. My advice to Sarah--just concentrate on the candy!

I love fake stuff, like statues and busts and dolls, but pretty ones. Halloween is fun baby! Just think of it like a time when people get to put on interesting costumes and get candy for it. And I just go crazy for all the cool ideas for home decorating for this time of year!!!! Course my tastes tend to lean on the side of fantastical and haunted housey anyway.

But I'm with you on the scarey movie deal. Homey don't play dat.

Halloween is one of my favs...interestingly enough to say...but I don't dig the nasty grusome stuff. A perfect Halloween to me is eating carmeled apples and pumkin chocolate chip cookies, carving pumpkins, listening to "Monster Mash", answering the door for cute little kids dressed as Buzz Lightyear or a princess, dressing up myself with easy ears and a tail, watching the movie "Hocus Pocus" (you know, with Sarah Jessica Parker and Bette Midler as witches...oh and another fun movie, "Witches")...and to top it off being with family and having a campfire and remanicing (sp?) about what we dressed up as when we were little...my famous one was the devil...but did I ever loose that title? hahaha. I think we have a picture of you as a cowgirl, me as a mouse and Christina as a cat. Anywho...that was a long explanation about the good things on Halloween...no men chasing you with chainsaws...not up my alley!
