Scaredy Cat

So it's cold. On October 5th. And my furnace started kicking on last night. It can be a little loud sometimes and sounds a little like a growling animal. Apparently. Because Gidget is terrified of the thing. I've never seen her scared of anything. She about killed herself trying to squeeze under my door to get out of the room and would hide under furniture or on my head and cry loudly. Made for a long night. And I know that it's not for a while, but I was thinking about what I would do with her over Thanksgiving when I'm in Vegas. I could probably find someone to check in on her to make sure she has food and everything, but more than that I feel guilty for leaving her (so much so that I'm stressing about it now). Seriously, I swore I would never be like this with a pet. Or call her my child. Which I have been doing lately. I'm going to be old scary cat lady. I can see it now. I might just bring her with me. Is that pathetic?

Actually, I will be hitching a ride with Courtney who always brings her little dog Oliver. He and Gidget are friends. They might have fun.

I'm a bad mother, I don't have any pictures of Gidget. I think I took some with my camera but they were never developed. I need a digital camera for photo sharing purposes. Nina, don't you have me for Christmas this year?

Ooh. I love the sound furnaces make. There was always something comforting about hearing it turn on in the house I lived in growing up.

Animals are funny like that. Weird / loud noises scare them. I remember when Indy (yellow lab) came and jumped on me one morning after a loud clap of thunder (it must have been in our neighborhood, yeesh). Such a big scardy cat. And he's a dog!

And at least the pet you feel guilty about is real. I feel guilty for letting a virtual dog (Gimli) go all day without attention (or food. yikes.)

Okay I give. You win.

See, I think I would just rather have the real thing. these virtual pets...can they cuddle with you at night? That's my favorite. I want a puppy now.

you are very nornal. One day when your child starts calling you "mommy", you'll lock the cat in the laundry room and won't even feel bad about it. Don't ask me how I know this, because I would NEVER do somthing so traumatizing to a pet.

That's exactly it. What puppies are really good for is cuddling. But, on the positive side, the virtual one doesn't steal my digital camera or ipod or chew up other items or have to be potty trained. But, the little virtual guy does have the adorable thing down.

"Let's see what happens when we take away the puppy."

Nothing traumatizing. Like feeding Abby a whole tub of vaseline?

That's why cats are good. They get litter box trained almost instantly. And don't like to go anywhere else. Unless you leave them for days and they get mad and spray your suitcase right in front of you in protest.

I remember my friend sticking their kitten in a little drawer in his sister's room one time. Freaked her out when she went to bed and heard it meowing to get out.

I almost hung Gidget once. Don't ask how. It wasnt my finest hour.
