So after watching Alias last night, I caught a few minutes of an episode of Wife Swap (and let me just go on the record as saying that the families that agree to do this, I don't know what they are thinking except 'yeah, I get to be on TV'). So there was this ex-military, pro Bush family, and a super liberal pacifist family swapping. The ex-military woman was a little overboard on her house rules and all, but the liberal family blew my mind. This woman spoke about how they encourage their children to be free thinkers (which is good to teach them to think for themselves) but to the extreme. They showed a clip of their teenage boy yelling at his father and she stood their smiling and spoke of how proud she was of his independent mind. Well, what really got me was the comments this belligerent boy made about the US, and that his parents encouraged. All I heard before I turned off the TV to go to bed was his voice saying " I believe that the US should be dismantled. It does more harm than good."
Well, Amelia and I talked about that this morning as we were getting ready for work and came up with a good plan. Do you think that legislation could be passed that required all those who feel similarly to be deported, if not only for a probationary period? I think it would be great. We could send them to Cuba for a while. Of course they would have to watch their mouths when tempted to complain about the government there. I personally know an elderly Cuban refugee who just spent the last twenty years in prison because of his political beliefs.
Who would have the gall to make such a statement? It is the country you live it that makes it okay for you to have your own opinion. Madonna was reported as making similar remarks in regards to the war while on tour in England. Okay Madonna, so stay there. We don't all have to agree on everything, but it's the lack of gratitude for what we have that boggles the mind.
Madonna would not have the fame and fortune that she does if she had pursued her career in any other country (let me go on record as saying that global location aside, I still don't understand how she has the fame and fortune she does).
Bottom line. The Americans fighting in Iraq - there by choice. The Iraqi people - reported as being grateful ( I have yet to hear a negative report from their side of the coin, and I trust that if their was one that the media could find, we would be hearing about it). Is war ideal - no. Good - not necessarily. Essential at times in order to preserve freedoms and stop bad men from doing more bad things - I personally believe so.
Well, this pacifist wife swappee stated that "she believes in a world without war" as do I. Unfortunately, we may not see that until all the bad people that start wars for evil reasons are sent to the bad place. IE: the Second Coming. Otherwise, we might very well find ourselves under Fidel Castro or some other lovely dictator in the near future. We won't have to worry about differences of opinion, because our minds will be made up for us. No more of this clashing of political parties, let alone worrying about religious convictions, we can have religion abolished completely. So why don't we just give peace a chance?
(Hope you noted the sarcasm, I need to cut back on that.)

We have watched wifeswap before and Whew! Man, does it ever make you grateful for the spouse that you have! But yeah, those people must be totally crazy to want to do that on television...and I think they may try to "play it up" more to get the ratings...some of the more conservative families really don't seem like the type that would want to go on t.v., ya know? Heck, some of them don't even have a television!! I always wonder about those reality shows...just how much truly is reality? Hmmmm....
But I agree whole-heartedly with you about the people who don't like it here in the USA....they need to just move, for crying out loud! Or the people that "just want peace"...Oh, pish! Yeah, why didn't we just let that loveable man named Hitler do whatever the heck he wanted. Unfortunately it took a war to bring that man down! But I don't hear anybody sobbing that he isn't with us anymore! Same with Saddam...okay, yeah, there's no weapons of mass destruction but have people not heard what kind of a tyrant he was? The things he would do to innocent beings? Have they not heard about the legions of bodies found in wherehouses over there? It took a war to bring him down...that is the way of things...the way of the Force (sorry....I've had a Star Wars overdose today).
Well, anyone who hates their own country... the very country that gives them the freedom to say that should, in the wise words of Garfield (the cat, not the President) "be drug out into the street and shot!"
Not really, but you know.... ;)

Oh my darling young American Women! I feel the swelling of pride to the core of my being - knowing that you are so young and yet so WITH IT! Amen to all that you both said.
I get so irritated that people on wifeswap always cry. Their children cry and stomp off so angry and pathetic like true spoiled brats. I end up shouting at the t.v. "Why did they sign up for this then???" People are so self centered and get caught up in the desire of a true 15 minutes of fame.
As for America Haters...who reside in America...they are also spoiled brats. I would LOVE to see them lined up and shipped out. I would be happy to volunteer for the job of holding the clipboard and checking off their spoiled brat names as they walk the plank to their departing ships. How dare all the celebrities and musicians criticize our great FREE country that has been a place of opportunity for them to amass their huge spoils. There's gratitude for ya. Losers.
Amen to the likes of you 2 strong willed American women. I'm proud to call you my sisters...and my friends. Shout it out ladies! America is the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave and God has given us this blessed country in order that we may learn, grow and contibute positively to the lives of many. I'm happy to be an American!
Omygosh,I love wifeswap!!!! Mostly because it makes me feel like a good mom. And amen to all the "three cheers for the USA stuff." One caution: I don't want to be shipped out for being Mormon or some other lame reason. So we better not start a precednet by shipping them out--who knows what those crazy judges might do! We could ostracize them, though. And hide outside their windows and secretly change their tv channels to Fox news.
Oooo, Rachel, I like it. So devious.
Those are my girls! (Britten included
