I woke up to a winter wonderland this morning, and what's more, Amelia had cleaned off my car for me (that or the snow fairies did it). Yes, it makes everyday life a little more difficult, but I love the snow! Word to the wise: don't wear pointy heels with no traction on snowy slushy days. I just like to have my snow and my fashion too. :)
The downside is that I am a little refriado (take a guess, sounds like refrigerator, which is cold) and so all stuffy and my sinuses are killin me. No matter. I just finished my lil morning break in the cafeteria of the COB (church office building). One of my friends is trying to get her Chilean fiance a visa so they can get married already. The other asked to me help plan her wedding in July. She started dating this guy a week ago. She also is being scolded by her sister/roommate for not being okay with harboring an illegal immigrant in her newly purchased home. Drama at the COB. Sounds like a Spanish soap opera, but cleaner. And so I get to give them all kinds of good advice since my life is so dull (no complaints).
I applied for this job with the Salt Lake Action Program on Friday. It is for a Family Advocate, a liaison for low income families, and their social workers, amongst other things. I would love that...for now anyway. While I was sitting in their office filling out their application, a Hispanic family came in. The kids started reading books put there for the children. Some in Spanish. A 10 year old was reading out loud and pronounced very proudly that "I can read in Spanish." I told her that she was doing a really good job and that I can read in Spanish too. She and her sister said, "Nuh-uh!" and asked what grade I was in. The younger girl said that she liked my ring and asked where I got it. I told her that my mom gave it too me and that she got it in Peru. She said, "Oh, I don't really know my states that well." So cute. I would love to work there, as trying as it might be.
