Femme Fatal

So I have my suspicions that my institute teacher is a closet coffee drinker. I mean the woman can't hold still. I'm all understanding when it comes to having nervous habits like the Walker Leg Bouncing Syndrome, but her facial expressions change by the second. Sometimes I think she might explode. Aside from that, I am having a hard time not sporting a cynical attitude in that class. Amelia (my roommate and mission companion) and I were pretty excited about it, but it has been somewhat of a let down. We are taking Woman of the Scriptures which is supposed to focus on the role of the woman, specifically of the Bible. Well, last night we learned that Sarah, or Sarai as she called her the entire class was really old when she had Isaac. No offense, but by raise of hands, how many of us didn't know this? We spent the whole class covering that. I guess being a single woman I was hoping to learn of all the roles and duties that they held, so far, all we have talked about is our sacred duty to bear children (not to diminish that, I would have them now if it wasn't for one small insignificant detail), and why it is important for guys to open doors for woman, and how all of the feminists are going to hell in a handbasket. What's funny is Amelia has her degree in woman's studies and while she is no neo nazi feminist, is definitely an advocate for woman's rights much as the sister's of the early Relief Society were. I was worried that someone might notice the steam rising above her head. So pretty much we have been told over and over again that our purpose is to pro-create, so what do I do in the meantime, have I nothing to offer in the building of Zion? Yes, I know that is not true, but I expected something a little different from this experience. I suppose I will have to humble myself and learn something here. Britten, what would Queen Amidala do?

However, in speaking about Sarah and Abraham, I did get to mention that Sarah in Hebrew is "princess" . No one seemed to care all that much. I thought that maybe we could discuss the significance of that or something more in depth. Still, all bitter cynicism aside, I am a princess and don't you forget it.

Your teacher sucks. If I were teaching this class, it would rock!! And I would completely stay off the subject of baby-producing and talk about the other cool stuff they did. I would have loved to linger on the significance of their names in Hebrew too, like you said.
And, well you asked for it so here goes....

Queen Amidala, also known as Padme Naberrie, was a brave and courageous leader of the Naboo. Before she was elected queen, she was a member of the Legislative Youth Program for a couple of years. Before this, she helped her father with the Refugee Relief Movement and this is where her unending love for others started.

She thought that when her reign as queen ended she would settle down and have a family, but the new queen asked her to be Senator. Because of her selflessness, Padme couldn't refuse her. During her term, she worked hard at making sure the Military Creation Act would be defeated in the Republic Senate.

But then along comes Anakin, who causes her to finally start thinking of herself and the things she wants in life. And then, of course, we know that her determination to not give in to her feelings finally breaks down when she is faced with her own mortality and she confesses her deep love for him. Oh, what good-looking force-wielders will do to us ladies...*sigh*

Now she is trying to juggle her secret marriage to Anakin, her role as Senator in a Republic that is being more torn apart by the day and under the reign of a Supreme Chancellor who seems more and more likely to not give up his power once the Clone War is over, and hiding her pregnancy from the whole galaxy. All this and she has a husband that has just been granted the title, "The Hero with No Fear"...he is on the front lines of the war everday, been away from home for 5 months and so not even he knows she is pregnant.... not yet anway. It's quite the understatment to say she is a little stressed these days. Ultimately, this will all lead to her dying...mostly of a broken heart. *sobs*

Okay so my point is....See???? We woman are fine, working, fighting for the rights of others, preaching, teaching and all that, until a cute guy comes along and sweeps us off our feet, we get pregnant, and it all goes down hill from there.....

Hahahhahahah!! LOL!! J/K!!! But it does answer your question regarding the unsatisfactory class topics. :p

p.s. Did you like my little plug for EpIII there???

Oh and also, of course she sees the "bad streak" in Anakin, but this is very intriguing for her because she thinks she can fix it. Her need to help people with their problems makes her fall for him even more. But when she doesn't really help him and he falls more and more to the darkside and he starts killing people...well, how would you feel??

So now the lesson is....Never fall for the bad boys. They are fun, yes, but they all eventually turn into Darth Vader and leave you with 2 screaming kids, or leave you dead...one or the other.
